Although the exact origins of Nag Champa incense are not actually known, it is hypothesised that it was first created in Nepal and or India, as these are the places its ingredients are most commonly found.

It is made from a combination of sandalwood, champak or frangipani. When frangipani is used it is usually referred to as Champa.
